Skin tags are small, soft, skin-coloured growths that hang off the skin, giving them the name “tags”. They can look a bit like warts but vary in size and thickness, growing anywhere between a few millimetres and up to 5 cm. They are the result of a build-up of loose collagen fibres and blood vessels, but it is unclear what causes them.
Skin tags are typically found on the neck, armpits, around the groin, or under the breasts. They are common and don’t often cause pain. In our experience our patients usually choose to have them removed if they become unsightly or if they are catching on clothing or jewellery.
Most NHS services now see skin tag removal as a “procedure of limited clinical value” and purely cosmetic, and as such, you are rarely able to get the procedure through the NHS.
Affordable private skin tag removal is available through Summerfield healthcare. We offer tailored treatment for our patients and can provide you with diagnoses and treatment on-site with no need for an NHS referral or GP visit.
Although there are products on the market for DIY skin tag removal, you should be very cautious of these and always consult a doctor. Skin tags usually need to be removed by cauterising, freezing, or with minor surgery – none of these procedures should be undertaken at home or by anyone without formal medical training.
During your consultation, our clinician will discuss with you how your skin tag will be removed. The decision will be made based on the nature and location of the skin tag so that we can offer you the fastest and easiest procedure with the best results.
Cauterisation is the most effective and common removal method for removing skin tags. Liquid nitrogen is used to freeze the cells of the skin tag, blocking blood flow, and causing the tag to naturally fall away.
In some cases, minor surgery may have to be undertaken, where the skin tag is cut off, and the area stitched closed. This will be done under local anaesthetic and is a straightforward procedure.
Our clinicians can remove multiple skin tags in one appointment so you often won’t need to book on multiple occasions. If we do however find that you need longer than the booked appointment time, we will also assist you in booking a further appointment at a time convenient to you.
During your initial consultation, your consultant will look at any affected area and speak to you about the possible treatment options. The cost of multiple removals will be confirmed to you before your procedure starts, and there are no hidden costs.
You can choose to have certain skin tags removed and to leave others and our clinicians are happy to help you in deciding what is best for you.
Although we are a private healthcare provider, our priority is you and your health. That’s why we are committed to giving you excellent healthcare at affordable prices. Our booking team and clinicians are dedicated to ensuring you don’t incur any unnecessary costs when arranging your procedure.
We offer an enquiry triage process allowing you to use the enquiry form below to upload a photograph of your lumps and bumps. We will then advise you on which of our clinicians you need to see, based on the complexity of your case.
We can also offer a free 5 minute appointment in person to give you a straightforward ‘yes’ or ‘no’ of whether we can assist you, for those who are not able to upload a photograph of their skin tag(s).
Please note, if we confirm we can assist you with removal of your skin tag(s) we are not always able to guarantee a subsequent consultation and removal on the same day.
Once we have confirmed we can assist you with your skin tag(s) removal, our consultation fee starts from £89.00 depending on the consultant who is most suitable for your case, this is based on factors including the area of the body your skin tag(s) is located.
The consultation is mandatory to ensure the specialist can conduct a thorough physical examination of the skin tag(s), discuss the appropriate removal methods and obtain the relevant paperwork from yourself.
We will also advise you of the cost of removal during your appointment. There are no hidden costs and you are not obliged to proceed with the surgery after the consultation. You can discuss all your options with the clinician and take your time in making a decision. Skin tag removal procedures start from £99.00 depending on the size and location.
