Well Man Health Checks Wolverhampton & Shrewsbury

Keeping an eye on your health. Summerfield Healthcare recognises the reluctance of men to attend their GP’s for health checks and advice and as such offer a health screen check, specially tailored to suit you with convenient appointment times and a confidential service.

A health check can reassure you, or your family, that your health is on track as you get older.

Should there be any issues at all, early diagnosis could help tackle potentially avoidable illnesses. Key lifestyle changes could also help you reduce your risk of getting them in the first place.

Every health check appointment will result in a comprehensive report of all findings and any subsequent advice. This will be retained on your patient record with Summerfield Healthcare and can be used for comparison of future checks, findings may be shared with your NHS GP at your discretion.

What is involved?

The Wellman check-up can take up to 1 hour and includes:

  • Discussion on your lifestyle including diet, exercise, weight, smoking, contraception and family medical history
  • Blood pressure test
  • Blood Glucose check
  • Blood Tests
  • ECG
  • Weight check
  • Urine analysis to test for basic urinary abnormalities
  • Cholesterol blood test*
  • Prostate antigen blood test (PSA)**
  • Testicular examination (optional)
  • Prostrate examination (optional)
  • Time for your questions

*If you would like a lipid profile, a more in-depth cholesterol check, this can be done but you will need to fast for 12 hours prior to your appointment, drinking only water. As a result, a morning appointment is preferred.

A lipid profile test is available for customers with raised cholesterol levels and who require a detailed breakdown of the levels in the blood such as LDL and HDL. The test will pinpoint irregularities.

** Prostate antigen blood test (PSA) is recommended if you have symptoms such as difficulty passing urine, painful ejaculation or a swollen prostate gland. A prostate antigen test’s results will take 7-10 days. Please refrain from sexual intercourse 72 hours prior to your appointment if this is required.

In the event of any health concerns being identified, Summerfield Healthcare is often able to refer you on to specialist consultants or practitioners within our team ensuring a swift and responsive service.

Early diagnosis of serious illness

One in three deaths in England are before the age of 75 and more than three quarters of these premature deaths are as a result of the five big killers:

  • cancer
  • heart disease
  • stroke
  • respiratory disease
  • liver disease

Heart disease, testicular and prostate cancer are serious health risks for men and we believe that a regular health check offers the best chance of early detection.

Reassurance

Anxiety about health can often do more harm than good and a healthcheck can reassure you about your health, and provide you with information and advice to keep yourself healthy into the future.

A Wellman check will:

  • Allow you time to discuss issues that a normal GP appointment cannot allow for
  • Give you total anonymity, The appointment won’t appear on your medical records
  • Give you the option of referral pathways both privately and within the NHS if we find something that needs immediate attention
  • More often, reassure you that everything is okay with a few improvement suggestions
