Why do I need a Visa Medical?

More of us are choosing to live and work abroad and some countries require a visa medical to prove fitness for employment. If you are planning on an extended holiday, some countries also require a visa medical to ensure you are healthy enough to travel through the country. 

Many countries require foreign workers to undergo a visa medical check-up before beginning employment to ensure you are physically and mentally fit to work in their country. The medical will improve your chances of being employed abroad as it will prove that you are healthy and therefore suitable for work, or it will uncover any problems you are not aware of.

In some cases, countries also battle with specific diseases or conditions, so even if you are travelling as a tourist, they will want to ensure you will not carry new conditions into the country or be at particularly high risk of contracting a rare disease.

What is the cost of a Visa Medical?

Fees for visa medicals at Summerfield Healthcare generally start from £299, further costs may be involved depending on what is required for your particular visa medical. Our team will complete the medical examination, ECG and any blood tests required. If you require X-rays or other specialised tests we can arrange for these to be carried out at a private hospital of your choice.

What is included in the medical?

The majority of visa medicals involve the following checks and tests:

• Blood pressure reading
• Blood tests (e.g HIV, syphilis)
• Cardiovascular checks
• Chest X-Ray*
• ECG (electrocardiogram)
• Musculoskeletal examination
• Urinalysis

*Carried out at a private hospital of your choice.

Each individual visa medical will involve additional specific checks relevant to that country, but this will be explained on booking. The base price covers all of these tests where necessary, but the cost of your specific medical will be discussed with you when you book

Tests in our clinics should be completed within an hour. Where an X-ray is required your desired hospital will be able to advise you on the length of time it will take for your X-rays to be taken.
