An increasing number of adoption and fostering agencies are finding it difficult to find GPs who can dedicate time to reviewing AH1 and AH2 forms and complete the summary report as an appointed agency medical adviser.
Successful fostering and adoption requires an agency medical adviser committed to reviewing medical forms and commenting on health and lifestyle issues of the potential foster or adoptive parent.
At Summerfield Healthcare, we understand the approach of the British Association for Adoption and Fostering (BAAF) to adult medical reports, we also understand the need for more foster carers and adopting parents. That is why we work with an expert team to create GP summary reports for fostering and adoption.
Summerfield Healthcare is a member of CoramBAAF and we provide summary reporting nationwide as there is no need for a face to face appointment.
If you are planning to foster or adopt, you must undertake a medical examination (AH1) that will assess your current and long term physical and mental health. An AH2 is then needed every 2 years. On every occasion you undergo a medical an alternative GP must review the report and comment on your health and lifestyle and how this can impact suitability to foster or adopt a child.
The summary report is completed by an independent GP unfamiliar with the individual. This independent GP is known as the agency medical adviser and Summerfield Healthcare’s GPs work with a number of adoption agencies providing summary reports.
The role of the agency medical adviser is to summarise any health and lifestyle issues reported in the medical and comment on the significance this may have when you adopt or foster children.
We offer a nationwide service to adoption and fostering agencies who need to refer individual clients or multiple applications for the ‘Summary report from agency Medical Adviser’ section of the Adult Health Report to be completed. No face to face consultation is required.
We have a team of experienced GPs who already complete Adult Health Reports for various foster and adoption agencies, as well as the summary report for others as the designated Agency Medical Adviser. Our fee is £59 including VAT.
