Expanding Our Women’s Health Services

February 25 2020   |   News

We are delighted to announce that we are expanding our services for our female patients with the appointment of Dr Serena Salamat to our clinic.

Dr Salamat will be providing:

  • Well Woman Clinics
  • Cervical Smear tests
  • Menopause and HRT (Hormone replacement therapy)
  • Weekly Women’s Health Clinic
  • Regular GP appointments

All of which will allow women in and around Shrewsbury to quickly access a female GP.

As an introduction to Dr Salamat we will be offering free appointments at our clinic in Shrewsbury on March 11th 2020, from 10:00 am – 13:00 pm. Patients are welcome to attend for menopause and HRT advice or to discuss private smear options.

Dr Salamat, who also works within an NHS practice, was born and brought up in Shrewsbury and studied medicine at Keele University Medical School, qualifying in 2008.

As a junior doctor her work included Obstetrics and Gynaecology before she went on to complete her GP training in Shropshire in 2013 and was awarded Registrar of the Year.

Dr Salamat said: “I knew from a young age that I wanted to be a doctor. I have always had a strong interest in Women’s Health, which strengthened considerably after several international medical volunteer posts in developing countries.”

Over the past 10 years, Dr Salamat has continued to gain extra experience and further qualifications in Women’s Health – to strengthen and consolidate her expertise:

“I gained the Diploma in Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare (DFSRH), a diploma with the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (DRCOG) and competencies in fitting and removing implants and various coils, for which we are regularly reassessed,” added Dr Salamat.

After working for more than four years as a GP Partner as the Women’s Health lead she spent some time working and expanding her family abroad in France before returning to Shropshire, where she now works for both the NHS and privately.

She said: “The thing I like best about private medicine is the opportunity to truly give each one of my patients the time they need to discuss their problems.

“It gives me time to listen, thoroughly explore the details and be able to conduct a full examination and discuss appropriate investigations. It also helps to reduce NHS waiting lists.

“Outside of work, I enjoy walking, running and cooking. I am married with two young children, who also keep me busy.”

Dr Ed Penman, one of our GP’s here at Summerfield Health, said: “We are pleased to welcome Dr Salamat on to our team, expanding the variety of private GP services we are able to offer our female patients.”

Appointments at the Women’s Health Clinic allow women to have the opportunity to discuss all of their health concerns with a 30-minute appointment, with time to discuss issues that a normal GP appointment cannot allow for.
