Deciding that you do not want any more children and choosing to have a vasectomy is often a big decision, impacting many relationships and families. Therefore, once you have decided that getting a vasectomy is right for you, you don’t want to wait for months to make an appointment. This is where a private vasectomy service is of great value to you.
With no GP referral needed and minimal waiting times, going private for your vasectomy means you can arrange the procedure at a time convenient for you. If you wish to discuss the procedure before booking a private vasectomy appointment, we also offer a consultation service. This is where you can meet with our surgeon who will be able to talk you through the procedure and answer any questions you might have.
If getting a vasectomy is right for you and you would like to be seen quickly, you can now find the next available appointment and book your consultation or surgery online below.
A vasectomy is a minor operation that is 99.9% effective at preventing pregnancy, carried out dividing, tying and sealing the vas deferens (the tubes that carry sperm from your testicles to your penis). As a result, the vasectomy procedure is considered to be one of the most effective long-term methods of contraception.
Although many men feel daunted by the prospect of a vasectomy, the procedure is straightforward for an experienced surgeon and will take around 15-20 minutes.
For more information on a vasectomy, please visit the NHS Vasectomy page.
Following your vasectomy, any pain can usually be managed with mild painkillers. As a result, most men only experience minor discomfort for a couple of weeks. Depending on your occupation, most men need less than two days before returning to work but should avoid heavy lifting or sports for at least one week. You should also refrain from any sexual activity for least a week to allow for healing.
Anaesthetic may also affect your ability to drive your car and the movement may also cause discomfort. We recommend that you take it easy for at least two days after the surgery and that you have someone else drive you home after the procedure.
Aside from any minor short-term discomfort, a vasectomy will not affect your sex drive, testosterone or ability to have sex. You will still be able to have erections and produce the same amount of semen. As sperm itself forms such a small part of seminal emission, it is unlikely you will even notice a difference after the surgery.
The vasectomy surgery has no impact on testosterone, so there is no side effect or lasting lack of libido. As a result of the surgery, your body will still continue to produce sperm, but this will be naturally reabsorbed by the body.
It is important to continue to use contraception for the first few months after surgery. Summerfield Healthcare will arrange for semen analysis after 16 weeks to ensure no sperm remains in your semen. This is included in our service for no extra cost.
Although possible, a vasectomy should be considered to be a permanent method of male sterilisation. Summerfield Healthcare do not provide vasectomy reversals.
