Health Checks, Well Man & Woman Medicals in Shrewsbury & Wolverhampton

Every year our vehicles get an MOT – to make sure everything is working correctly and ensure they will be roadworthy for the next 12 months.

Our bodies work hard every single day and there are many things that can go wrong if problems are left unchecked. Some health problems can also progress without you knowing they are there, and if discovered too late, treatment may be harder, or even ineffective.

A full body MOT health check not only checks all aspects of your health but allows you time with a medical professional who can give you answers to any niggling questions you may have.

It also monitors improvements if you have taken on a healthier lifestyle and are looking to see the results that lifestyle is bringing.

Summerfield Healthcare offer a range of health checks and well person medicals to suit you, including a standard health screening.

Why is a health check important?

An annual health check or MOT is used to help spot early signs of illness or provide reassurance. Along with all standard medical tests and checks, booking a private health check gives you the opportunity to speak to a health professional about any ongoing issues or concerns you may have about your health or wellbeing.

A screening service is not readily available on the NHS and as a result, many people are guilty of neglecting their general health.

Serious problems such as type 2 diabetes and heart disease pose a higher risk to those of more mature age and it is important that any signs of serious illness do not go unnoticed or unchecked.

Although many people wait to start having screenings until they are older, it is advisable that you start having health screenings sooner rather than later, especially in cases where you know there is a family history of high blood pressure, heart disease, cancer or strokes.

Getting your health checked on a regular basis can not only help you to better look after your health, but can also flag up any potential dangers.

What health checks are available?

A good health screening comes with a range of tests, examinations, and checks in order to give you a complete overview of your health. If you have specific concerns, then you can speak to your clinician about any extra tests that might be necessary to give you peace of mind.

All of our health checks come with a mental health and lifestyle questionnaire and a full review of the status of your health. This holistic approach allows us to fully understand your life, circumstances, and health.

If any concerns are raised during your health screening, you will also be able to speak to your clinician about further tests, any necessary prescriptions or treatments for newly discovered conditions, or appropriate lifestyle choices and changes that will either keep you healthy or help you to restore some of your wellbeing.

At Summerfield Healthcare we offer four specifically tailored health checks. We have designed these tests with you in mind, ensuring we cover all the essential points for monitoring your health and wellbeing. After your health check, you will receive a comprehensive report with all of the test results.

With a better understanding of your own health, you are in a better position to make sure you stay healthy for a much longer time.

Advanced health check

The Summerfield Healthcare advanced health check is a 20 minute nurse led assessment and our entry level health screening. This health screening includes an assessment of your blood pressure, cardiovascular risk, BMI and breathing airflow. A check for diabetes and raised cholesterol is also undertaken, with the results being available within minutes of the test. The assessment also encompasses a lifestyle and mental health assessment.

The advanced health check is designed to be a mobile service which can be conducted at your workplace if you have a number of assessments that need to be completed. We also offer this service from our clinics in Shrewsbury and Wolverhampton.

More information on each section of the health check is available below:

  • Pre health check questionnaires: Lifestyle and mental health assessments are completed prior to your health check which gives our clinician an insight into your physical and mental health.

Nurse tests

  • Blood Glucose and Cholesterol levels: A skin prick test will pinpoint your exact blood sugar levels and identify risk of elevated blood glucose which can be problematic if at a high level for a long period of time. In addition we check your cholesterol, helping to spot the early signs of heart disease or diabetes, this is crucially important due to high cholesterol itself not having symptoms.
  • BMI: Our nurse will check your body mass index which indicates whether your weight is healthy and if you have excess waist fat. An unhealthy BMI can increase risk of type 2 diabetes and some cancers.
  • Blood pressure: A straightforward test checks your blood pressure levels and highlights hypertension (elevated blood pressure) which can put a strain on your arteries and organs, leading to an increased risk of heart attacks/strokes.
  • Breathing airflow: The peak flow check measures the speed of your breathing, your score can indicate narrow airways and potential lung problems such as asthma.
  • Cardiovascular Risk Assessment: As important as any clinical test, the assessment establishes risk factors for cardiovascular disease such as blood pressure, cholesterol levels, smoking status, family history, age and gender. The assessment not only calculates risk of cardiovascular disease within the next 10 years, but throughout your whole life time.
  • Pulse rate: Using an oximeter our nurse will check your blood oxygen saturation level, helping to detect any abnormal pulse readings.
  • Urinalysis: A comprehensive urine sample screening detecting a range of elements such as blood, specific gravity and protein levels.

A comprehensive and personalised health report is formulated following the assessment and given to you on the day of your assessment.

The cost of the Advanced Health Check is £149.00.

If you require multiple assessments at your workplace please get in touch with our team for more information about a Summerfield Healthcare nurse coming to your site.
