Is an integrative therapist who places people firmly at the heart of her practice working alongside individuals to help them maximise their potential. The Recovery philosophy, that recognises people as individuals with unique skills and talents, underpins her approach. To assist people on their journey she can call on her training in a number of therapeutic interventions and approaches. As a Chartered Counselling Psychologist with the British Psychological Society (BPS) she has a Doctorate in Counselling Psychology from the University of Wolverhampton, a Postgraduate Certificate in Couple Counselling from the University of East London and a Diploma in Psychology from the Open University. She works to the Code of Ethics and Conduct of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and is registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Counselling Psychologist.
Dr Ruggeri has been providing services to people with relationship and mental health issues since 2005. Prior to training as a psychologist she worked for a number of years as a Counsellor for Relate, helping individuals and couples improve the quality of their relationships.
Dr Ruggeri has operated within a variety of settings including a therapeutic community where she lived alongside residents providing 24 hour support. She has worked in NHS Community Mental Health Teams providing highly specialised psychological assessment, interventions and consultation to clients experiencing a wide range of mental health problems, including anxiety, depression, bereavement, loss, abuse, addiction, trauma, psychosis and personality disorder. She has also worked in a Learning Disabilities Team providing specialist input to people with Autistic Spectrum Disorders, Asperger’s syndrome and Down’s syndrome.
For over four years Dr Ruggeri worked with sectioned patients in male and female psychiatric hospitals. Often these patients had dual diagnosis, complex mental health needs and forensic backgrounds. As part of this role she compiled reports and witness testimony to Mental Health Review Tribunals, provided Supervision for other mental health professionals, led on the introduction of the Recovery Approach and introduced a new intervention the Talking with Voices approach to support people who hear voices.
Dr Ruggeri has also provided training on a number of topics including anger management, self harm, schizophrenia, anxiety management, Recovery in action, working with Voice Hearers and working with people with Asperger’s syndrome. She has run groups including mindfulness, anger management, problem solving, voices and recovery and has become a faculty member of the International Centre for Recovery Action (ICRA) and a member of Intervoice (International Voice Hearers Network).
Dr Ruggeri has a particular interest in working with trauma and is trained in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR).
