Private Blood Tests

Blood tests can be required for any number of different reasons and are one of the most common forms of medical testing. We offer more than 500 types of blood tests to help you take charge of your health. Taking a blood test can help you:

  • Assess and understand your general health and wellbeing – this can also give you peace of mind if you are concerned there is an abnormality
  • Check if you have an infection
  • Check your organ functioning, especially your liver and kidneys
  • Screen for certain medical conditions
  • Screen for certain genetic conditions

You might also require a blood test to work abroad or work in certain sectors that require a health workup before you take up a position.

If you have concerns about your health or require blood tests for work abroad or in the healthcare sector, we offer a wide range of testing services which are affordable, accurate, and completely confidential. Our no-wait private service ensures that you receive the reassurance or information you require in a much smaller time frame than if you go through the NHS.

Blood tests only take a few minutes and are carried out by our qualified and experienced medical staff. We are patient and understanding and if you are more sensitive to having blood taken, we will endeavour to make sure you feel comfortable while the blood test is done.

We offer same-day appointments at our clinic.

We offer over 500 blood tests so please call us on 0333 9000 010 or email [email protected] for all other blood tests and we will provide costings, availability and turnaround times.

Do I need a referral?

No, you do not need a referral letter to obtain your test and results. We see patients without referral letters from a GP or other health professional, but we can send your results to your GP for ongoing treatment after the test is complete at your request.

Using a private medical service does not exclude you from using NHS services in the future.

How it works

  1. Book your Test. To book your blood test, please book online or call 0333 9000 010, where you can discuss your request with our bookings team or book online.
  2. Attend your appointment. Appointments are made with our experienced and registered healthcare professionals and usually last around 15 minutes depending on the blood tests required. Our team can advise you on expected turnaround times for the test(s) you require.
  3. Wait. Our lab does need time to carry out the tests and turnaround times depend on what is being tested. We endeavour to return your results as soon as possible once your blood test samples are received at the lab for analysis.
  4. Receive your results. Most test results are available the next working day, although certain tests take a little longer. Our team can advise you. Your blood tests results will be sent electronically in the form of an easy to read secure PDF file. Depending on your preference, results can also be posted first class.
  5. If you wish to discuss your blood test results you can book a follow up GP consultation. (please note our usual fees apply).

How is a blood test carried out?

A blood test is done by taking a blood sample from a blood vessel in your arm, usually on the inside of your elbow or wrist because the veins are closer to the surface and easier to access.

A tight band is tied around the upper arm to temporarily slow down blood, causing the vein to swell and making it easier to find the vein and take the sample.

The healthcare professional taking your blood will clean the area before using a very thin needle and syringe to draw out the right amount of blood. When the needle is inserted you may feel a scratch or pricking sensation, but it shouldn’t feel painful. If you are scared of needles or blood, or if you are uncertain of the procedure you can speak to us and we will do everything we can to make you feel comfortable. Even if you are having multiple tests, only one needle will need to be inserted.

Once the blood sample has been taken, the needle and band are removed, and pressure is applied to the area where the needle was inserted. A plaster might be put on the wound to keep it clean.

For children, blood is usually taken from the back of the hand and we may use an anaesthetic cream or spray to numb the skin first.

After the test you should feel fine and be able to go about your day as normal. Some people do feel slightly dizzy or faint but this will pass quickly. You might have slight bruising where the needle entered but it’s nothing to worry about and will fade over a few days.
