Autism Assessment & Diagnosis
A private autism assessment by an expert is important in enabling access to the right support. It can also provide an explanation for why certain things may be so difficult. If you are concerned that your son or daughter has autism, we recommend that you seek a diagnostic assessment from a professional immediately.
Summerfield Healthcare can offer you a quick and convenient appointment with our experienced Consultant Dr. John Biddulph, a specialist provider of autism and Asperger Syndrome assessments. Our private diagnosis assessments can take away the stress of a long and frustrating wait, normally associated with a referral to a specialist.
You can self refer which means that you do not have to wait for the school or GP to make that decision for you.
Diagnosis for Children and Adults
A diagnosis of autism is essential to your child’s progression, ensuring they are supported in their education and development. The diagnosis made, is based on the range of features your child is displaying on the autism spectrum.
It’s never too late to get a diagnosis. Some people with autism grow up without their condition being recognised, which is a common occurrence. Summerfield Healthcare can help adults of any age who may display autistic characteristics.
A diagnosis for an adult or child may also make it easier to access autism-specific services, enable access to support at school, as well as claim benefits. In addition, it may simply provide answers for your personal discovery. More information can be found on the National Autistic Society Website.
The Assessment Process
All assessments and diagnostic services are carried out discreetly and no GP referral is needed.
Initially, you will be sent a comprehensive data collection tool. This provides information about the current condition and tendencies displayed. The data will then be analysed in detail by Dr Biddulph. The cost of this process is £239.
Having reviewed the information provided, Dr Biddulph will determine whether a diagnosis of autism is likely, referring to the NICE Clinical Guidelines. If he identifies that a diagnosis of autism is not likely, he may refer directly to another expert who he feels is in the best position to help.
If a diagnosis of autism is likely a 2-3 hour face to face private assessment will be arranged. Following this assessment, a comprehensive report is produced. The fee for assessment and report is £599.
Once your autism/aspergers diagnosis report is completed, ongoing counselling is offered by Dr Biddulph. Counselling can help you understand the diagnosis and what it means for you going forward. It also enables you to alleviate any concerns you have following the diagnosis. An hour-long session is £119.
If you require further information to be sent to you prior to beginning the autism/aspergers diagnosis process, please contact Summerfield Healthcare. We will then send over a confidential information sheet to help you in deciding to proceed.
